Title: Sex on the screen: Technology and Sexualisation. Dr Feona Attwood, Media and Communication Studies, Sheffield Hallam University
Abstract
In this paper I discuss how the development of media and communication technologies has offered women access to new forms of sex-cultural production and consumption and how this can be understood in the broader context of sexualization and of shifts in the way visibility and celebrity, sexual display and agency are conceived. I discuss the way that current debates about sexualization illuminate contested views about technology, sex and the body and examine how in these feminist politics and more conservative views of ‘healthy sex’ are often entangled and difficult to separate.
